Away Days is an independent documentary series reporting from the global underground. Real outsider journalism focused on counterculture and the fringes of society.

Journalist Jake Hanrahan (host / creator of Away Days) and filmmaker Jonny Pickup (director of photography) have both spent the last decade embedded in places they shouldn’t be. This project is the result of their combined experience.

In part, Away Days is a reaction to an infantilised mainstream—journalists should not be your nanny.

With unique access, original stylised production, and serious on-the-ground reporting, we’re taking the viewer deep into the underbelly with no airs and graces. We showcase what the mainstream can’t access. This is kitchen sink realism in documentary form. Completely unapologetic.
